In the 21st century, we do have romantic heroes. Based on the definition in the book, a good percentage of the teenage population could be considered "romantic heroes." Almost every teenager likes to think of his (or her) self as an individual. Some feel that they are "solitary, and alienated" from the world, and that nobody understands them. They fit in perfectly with the "suffering" romantic hero. Even more teenagers like to take destiny in their own hands. They like to rebel against the world. Thinking of themselves as "self willed individuals" they like to be in charge. This group wold fit in with the "titanic" type of romantic heroes.

There are very few true romantic heroes left in the 21st century, especially ones that mark themselves as "suffering" romantic heroes. These artists and musicians that label themselves as people who are "suffering" are the ones who believe that no one understands them and that no one will get what they are going through. Until they become multi-millionaires off of the music that they have produced or the art they have sold to museums. These people are the ones that would like to think that they are "suffering" romantic heroes simply based off of the fact that maybe their past life was rough but now they are millionaires and still try to portray that "less fortunate" image. The real "suffering" romantics are the artists and musicians that paint the scenary around them on the street and play their guitar or saxaphone on the streets and make money off of the generous donations that they receive from people. Those people are the real "suffering" romantics.
ReplyDeleteThose that mark themselves as "titanic" romantic heroes are the people like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, who portray this image of an "individual" who does their own thing while they happen to be making millions of dollars while they're doing so. People and artists like them are the individuals who portray this image just to get out of the mainstream and try something different. This is where they can be marked as "titanic" romantic heroes.
There are fictional Romantic heroes like superman and Iron Man who would go under the category of titanic heroes. A character like the cape and Hancock would fall under the Byronic heroes.
ReplyDeleteSuperman or also known as Clark Kent does his best to save the world and shows off the colours of his country. Superman is not human and he has special abilities to help save people. He knows he cannot save everyone but he uses his special abilities to do the best for mankind. Green Arrow or Oliver Queen is very rich and he uses that money to buy and make different archery equipment. He uses his perfect aim and cool gadgets to stop bad guys. They are both heroes who save people using their unique characteristics. They both are part of the justice league of America team of heroes and are able to work together to help save the world.
The Cape or Vince Faraday uses his disguise and knowledge to prove his innocence. He trains on his own with his cape and tries to be the best. He plans and tries to solve the puzzle of how to show the world who the bad guy really is. Sometimes his efforts involve saving the person he wants so desperately to destroy along with other innocent people. Hancock would be a Byronic hero because he uses his abilities to save people but he is tormented because he does not know who he is. Both of these heroes save themselves or people but in a way that is conflicted with things that make them have an air of solitude.
In the modern world romantic heroes were shown a lot through fictional writing. Titanic heroes are characters that can work together with other heroes. They use their differences to try and make the world the best place possible. Also the Byronic heroes that do save people but it is not their main goal.
Romantic heroes in today’s society? I can easily think of many people who would be able to fit the description. People who fit the description of eternal suffering would be Barrack Obama in my opinion. He has to deal with the failing economy and all the problems left behind when Bush left office (Not saying everything is completely Bush’s fault). Barrack Obama was also has to deal with the people all around him, watching him, commenting on him, whether he fails or succeeds he will always be followed by his achievements and more importantly to the people to today (unfortunately) his fails. He will be followed eternally for anything that he has done wrong, and for that, he in turn suffers eternally.
ReplyDeleteA person who fits the description of a titanic hero to a tee would be Lady Gaga. The dresses, music videos, songs that she makes are so off the current mainstream it’s ridiculous.
And that’s my opinion
